Christmas market analysis – Wolfgangsee Advent 2023

Numerous people visited the Wolfgangsee Advent last weekend. Where did the visitors come from and how many were there exactly?
Invenium takes a look back at the first Advent weekend.

Arts and crafts, a wide variety of culinary delights and the spread of a special Christmas atmosphere – Christmas markets are an integral part of the pre-Christmas season!

As every year, numerous visitors make their way through the colorful city centers and explore the diverse offerings. The city centers come to life, the squares and alleyways fill up!

For two decades now, the Wolfgangsee Advent has been delighting visitors with its lovingly designed Advent market along the lake.

Guests move between the villages of St. Gilgen, Strobl and Sankt Wolfgang and can soak up the pre-Christmas atmosphere.

This year, Invenium is analyzing the streams of visitors to the three villages and looking back on the first Advent weekend (01.12 – 03.12.2023):

The first weekend in December attracts numerous visitors to Wolfgangsee.

In total, all three towns together recorded 80,780 guests and an average length of stay of 2 hours and 9 minutes. At 81%, national visitors make up the majority.

The pre-Christmas event is very popular with both men and women, with female visitors just outnumbering male visitors by 56%. The age distribution also shows a clear core group of 50 to 59-year-olds.

Germany is clearly the top country of origin for international guests with 9% of visitors, followed by Croatia (2%), the Czech Republic (1%), Hungary (1%) and Switzerland (1%).

The top Austrian districts of origin can also be clearly identified among national guests. With 28%, the district of Gmunden takes first place, followed by Salzburg-Umgebung (14%), Vöcklabruck (7%), Salzburg (city) (7%) and Sankt Johann im Pongau (5%). *
