Donauinselfest and cult rock band AC/DC honored Vienna
On Sunday, two outstanding events took place in the Austrian capital Vienna, attracting thousands of people and providing great entertainment. Top musical acts at the “Donauinselfest” and AC/CD put on an unforgettable show and left visitors spoiled for choice on June 23.
Let’s take a look at the two events from a numerical perspective:
Almost 200,000 people visited the “island” on the final day of the 2024 Donauinselfest in Vienna. Europe’s largest open-air festival with free admission attracted masses of people, significantly outnumbering the ticket-limited admission to the Ernst Happel Stadium. Around 60,000 AC/DC fans gathered there to celebrate the legendary cult rock band.
While women were only slightly in the majority on the Donauinsel at 51% and the gender distribution was therefore almost balanced, male concertgoers were clearly in the majority in the stadium at 64%.
There were also remarkable differences in the proportion of international visitors, at least in relative terms. The international share of visitors, primarily from Hungary, Croatia, Romania and Slovenia, amounted to 21% at the AC/DC concert. A connection with the planned tour stops and the predominant countries cannot be ruled out, as a concert is not planned in any of the countries mentioned. At the Donauinselfest, on the other hand, an international visitor share of just under 6% was recorded. In absolute terms, the proportion of international visitors was almost identical at both events.
An exciting key fact concerns the catchment area of the concerts. 80% of Austrian visitors traveled up to 160 km for the AC/DC concert, while the catchment area for the Donauinselfest was significantly smaller at around 30 km.
In summary, June 23 in Vienna offered two unforgettable musical experiences that were attended by both locals and international guests. While the Donauinselfest scored with its diversity and free admission, AC/DC thrilled with a concentrated load of rock and a loyal fan base.
